The Gift of knowledge
gift a consult
Want to share the joys of wine knowledge? Gift a 25minute consult with a MySomm wine expert that your loved one can schedule at their convenience. The recipient can use the consult to make a wine purchasing plan for a party, learn more about their tastes and how to taste, or prep for an upcoming trip to a wine region. You never know, you might even benefit from the newfound knowledge.
A Book about wine
The Master Guide from the folks at WineFolly.com is required reading for all MySomm employees. This guide has all the information a wine lover needs to go from novice to expert. We love how user-friendly this book is, and with all the colorful diagrams, it’s fun too.
our favorite tools and accessories
Wine Glass
When drinking wine, nothing is more important than having the right glass. At MySomm, we like to have one glass that we can confidently use for every occasion. A great glass needs a well-crafted bowl and a thin delicate lip to express the features of wine. When we choose a glass, we like it to be elegant, versatile, durable, and reasonably priced. There are lots of great options to choose from, but we love this Gabriel-Glas universal wine glass, made in Austria from a proprietary lead-free crystal blend, which means its dishwasher safe, extremely durable, but still beautiful to look at and hold. If you would like your own, you can buy directly from Gabriel-Glas.
Wine opener
We at MySomm always open our wines with a “waiters friend.” When we are choosing a wine opener, we look for two criteria, it is double-hinged and has a non-slip coating on the worm. Expect to pay between $5-10 for one that meets these criteria. This waiters friend from TRUE is an elegant example head to their website or click the link to buy from amazon.
Wine Disc
Pouring wine, even with experience, can result in drops of wine where they shouldn't be. At MySomm, we try to ensure that every last drop goes where it's supposed to - in our glasses! To do so, we use a simple device known as a wine pouring disc to help us avoid the bottle drip. These discs should be inexpensive, reusable, and made of food-grade quality mylar. An excellent example of this is The Original Wine Disc.
Wine Fridge
Storing wine between 50 ºF and 60 ºF is ideal, but in general, we as humans don’t like to live in that same range. So as an alternative to making our homes freezing, a reliable option is to purchase a wine fridge. The built-in wine fridges are excellent at storing wine but come with a hefty price tag. That’s why at Mysomm we like using a freestanding wine fridge. Things we look for in a wine fridge: accurate temperature, quiet operation, and pleasant appearance. We think this 18 bottle wine fridge from Ivation gets the job done!
